Janwillem Schrofer, president of the Rijksakademie, Amsterdam
Greg Streak, platform 'Pulse'
Marcel Pinas, MOENGO, Surinam
This workshop was for those who are interested in starting up or expanding artists' residencies or artists' platforms.
After an introduction by Janwillem Schrofer, president of the Rijksakademie, Greg Streak from Durban will talked about his experiences, pitfalls and plans for his artists' platform 'PULSE'.
Marcel Pinas then talked about backgrounds, ideals and plans for a centre in Marowijne (MOENGO), in Suriname. After some general and specific criteria for setting up those residencies and centres, we will conclude with a 'playful' interactive Questions and Answers with the audience.
The Rijksakademie is an international platform for artists, in Amsterdam. During a two-years residency about 50 artists from all continents work here on research and production. Even after they finished their Research Residency we continue to keep in touch with individual artists and artists' initiatives. Those initiatives existing in Africa, Asia and Latin America, are united in the RAIN-network, embedded in the Rijksakademie alumni program. In each and every initiative the artists are the driving force, in some cases supported and advised by the Rijksakademie.
