CAMP: Open Grants & Educational Match

Two new funding opportunities are now open at CAMP.

Nestled in the French Pyrenees at 750m altitude, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, ancient forests and glacial lakes, CAMP is a residential arts school hosting masterclasses by the world’s most celebrated artists, musicians, writers and thinkers. Participants live, study and develop new work with Turner Prize winners, Grammy nominees, field-leading practitioners and industry pioneers.

In a bid to ensure the project’s catalytic sessions are as widely accessible as possible, CAMP just launched two funding programs: Open Grants, and an Educational Match Program.

The Open Grants program is open to all, offering a grant of up to half the cost of a session at CAMP. The application process is easy and fast, and applicants receive a decision within three days. Applications are now open at https://www.campfr.com/apply

The Educational Match Program is a scheme designed to fit with university training support programs – whatever a school contributes towards a student or teacher attending a masterclass, CAMP will match it. So if a department contributes 50% of the course fee, CAMP adds the other 50%, and the student or teacher gets their place at no personal cost. Enquiries aboutthe Education Match Program should be made by email to hello@campfr.com

CAMP’s program for 2018 includes:

  • Video & Installation Art with Laure Prouvost (Turner Prize winner and all round total genius)
  • Environmental Sound Recording with Chris Watson (founder of Cabaret Voltaire, sound recordist for David Attenborough, Planet Earth, Blue Planet etc)
  • Modern Composition with Gavin Bryars(maybe the worlds most important living composer?)
  • Hidden Sounds with Christina Kubisch (THE household name of sound art)
  • Live Art with Anne Bean (fifty year career of blowing minds in the art world)
  • Deep Listening, Meditation and Laughter with Laraaji (total guru! one of the early founders of ambient/new age, Brian Eno collabs, etc)
  • Screenwriting with Walt Donahue (script editor for Wim Wenders, Wes Anderson, Coen Brothers)
  • Experimental Performance with Eli Keszler(revolutionary NYC percussionist and installation artist)
  • Ensemble Playing with Apartment House (hottest avant-garde music ensemble on the planet!)
  • Play Writing with John Burgess (acclaimed director of the National Theatre, Royal Court Theatre, Riverside Studios, etc)

Courses include full board accommodation at the centre, all tuition and activities, unlimited use of the facilities, and post-course supportin the form of showcasing at Fuse Art Space, consideration of work for release on our range of in-house labels and publishing imprints, and tour support.

“We want CAMP to be a catalyst for experimental art and music, a place where people get together, learn from world famous artists and musicians, form new projects and collaborations, pull art and music apart and reform it in new configurations. In the long term, we want to support the people who get involved, and we expect big things to come out of here. We're also scheduling more informal events in between the masterclasses - a feminist art symposium, an environmental activism conference, a renewable energy forum, zero-cost short breaks for refugee families and loads of other exciting stuff.” (James Birchall)

CAMP also just launched a radio station broadcast from the Pyrenean base, with regular shows from Wire Magazine, Touch, Upset The Rhythm, Asher Levitas, BS1212, Ladyz In Noyz, Norman Records and tons of other exciting sonic producers. More info on that can be found at http://listen.camp
