2018 A4国际艺术家驻留项目: Youngjae Lih(李荣宰) 工作坊-寻找大佛 2018 A4 ARIE: Youngjae Lih’s workshop-“Follow Artist, Looking for Buddha”

Workshop A4 Artist in Residence International Exchange Program.

The artist Youngjea Lih was born in South Korea and currently works and lives in Sweden. His works focus on the composition and transformation of visual forms, the transmission of human information in space and time, and the collisions and blind spots in cultural exchanges. While living in different places, he found many interesting patterns of how Western cultures perceives Asian culture. Such as Buddha Statues displayed as some decorative applications in hotels, restaurants, beauty salons, massage shop, sushi restaurants, cosmetics stores and other places. Chengdu is one of the most active places where this exchange between the Western and the Eastern cultures first occurred. We can see many things and symbols from different civilizations in the city. Moreover, for Youngjea Lih’s residence creation, he will pay attention to how consumption logic use the core symbols of another culture in our daily lives.

In this workshop, we will invite participants and artists to use photography as a medium to explore our cities-“Buddha, the ancient oriental civilization, how this important symbol exists” from the point of external, internal, and individual view.
