2-week workshop with Claire Curneen: "Figure this: figurative sculpture"

Explore the process of hand-building figurative sculpture with Claire Curneen! 11-25 October 2016.

Claire Curneen is one of the UK’s foremost ceramic artists. The recipient of numerous international awards, she has exhibited her work in group and solo shows in the UK, Europe, Asia and the United States. In Italy she was selected for the Biennale of Faenza and most recently ”Open to Art” at Officine Saffi, Milan. Claire is a senior lecturer at the Centre for Ceramic Studies at Cardiff. Metropolitan University.

In this two-week master class, Claire will talk about her practice and give practical demonstrations on her approach to making. We will explore hand-building techniques, from slabbing, pinching and modelling. The human form in clay is deeply embedded in the early creations of art and continues to be a vibrant territory in which to work today. Work in the studio will be supplemented by visits to museums and walking tours of the city.

Theworkshop fee includes tuition, materials and firing, accommodation in double rooms in historical center of Rome (single room supplement), welcome dinner, 10 lunches, final dinner, plus tours and tickets for scheduled museum visits.
