AiR Skovde Goes Cuba

Susana Pilar Delahante Matienzo has been selected for AiRS

We are proud to announce Susana Pilar Delahante Matienzo as the 2016 artist in residence at Skovde Art Museum in Sweden, April 21 - May 20, 2016. The selection was made after an open call followed by studiovisits to ten finalists in Havana during September 2015. 

Susana Pilar Delahante Matienzo (b. 1984) lives and works in Havana, Cuba. Her work explores the obstacles and challenges that women face from both a personal and global perspective. Working mainly in video, photography, and drawing, Matienzo is unflinching in her approach to address the act and effects of violence against women, often producing powerful and disruptive visual images.

Matienzo studied in the Elemental school of Visual Art, the Fine Arts Academy and the High Institute of Arts (ISA) in Havana, Cuba (1998 to 2008) and pursued post-graduate studies in New Media at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design in Germany (2011 to 2013).

Skovde Art Museum opens an exhibition by Susana Pilar Delahante Matienzo June 2nd, 2016 of work made prior to the residency.

AiR Skövde is a residency for international artists founded in 2014 for Socially Engaged Art/Art in Public Space located in West Sweden.

AiR Skövde is semi directed residency In 2014-2017 the program investigates ”boundaries” in and between different societies, locally and/or internationally. Suggested themes are, but not limited to; migration, democracy, voice, ownership etc. We encourage work with attempt of claiming or having a critical stance to sites in public or semi public spaces.

AiR Skövde include traveling costs, accommodation, per diem and a small project budget. Application open on specific calls. No application fee.
