“Free public visual and literary arts programs are designed to promote our organizational goal to be a space for interdisciplinary creative experimentation. In addition to the residency program for visiting artists and writers, PSA-MS will offer several opportunities for the residents of Pike County and southwest Mississippi to engage in the power of artistic expression, thereby effecting positive change in our community,” said Calvin Phelps, PSA-MS founder and director.

Participants in the PSA-MS residency from around the world will present their work publicly during their stay, allowing them to discuss their work and their working process, as well as to share the ways in which their brief exposure to the culture of America’s Deep South informed their art or writing. At the same time, the community will have the opportunity to engage with the artists and writers and learn from their interaction. Talks and exhibitions will be arranged at various locations in Pike County, both during the residencies and throughout the year.

Year-round programs designed for the community include film screenings, artist and writer workshops, talks, communal dinners and other free events. PSA-MS will offer free screenings of quality independent, international, and classic films, as well as facilitate conversations on film and filmmaking. The series, titled PROJECTIONS, will take place once a month at various locations in or around McComb.

PSA-MS will also build free micro-libraries and place them in front of a small businesses in downtown Summit, McComb and Magnolia. The libraries will be stocked with a wide range of books and magazines, accompanied by an information card asking people to “take a book and leave a book.” The community is invited to interact with and add to this public resource.

PSA-MS will always be looking for more opportunities to bring art to life in our community. Local schools, businesses, and organizations are invited to partner with PSA-MS by reaching out with suggestions or questions at programs@PSA-MS.org
