Artist in an Olivegarden

Artist in an Olivengarden Arles (France) 2018.

Description of residency program
Artist in an Olivegarden is an independent and not for profit artist-in-residence in Arles, France, and currently coordinated by Claudia Froelich in Switzerland. She and her company (in Switzerland) have been supporting the development of independent artists since 2009, by providing workspaces and opportunities for Contemporary Artists and Writers in changing places, once on a hill, before in a store, now rooted in an Olivegarden.

Artist in an Olivegarden is an independent and not for profit artist-in-residence in Arles, France, and currently coordinated by Claudia Froelich in Zurich/Switzerland. Artist in an Olivegarden in Arles / France offers artist an opportunity to work for a period of time from April-June and September-November in an environment that is rich in history and surrounded by Nature. The hamlet Arles/Gimeaux was once owned by the Hospitalists of St. Jean of Jerusalem, it is 5 km away from the old part of Arles and borders the Camarque interconnecting Arles with St. Marie de la Mer.

The Residency can act as a catalyst for the temporary gathering of professional international Artists, who wish to pursue their work for a short while in a new context, under no pressure, inspired by others, laid back, thriving, in community or in solitude. Artists can take independent trips to Arles, can connect with the Art-Scene in Arles, or just enjoy the beautiful side lanes, restaurants an markets, or take a bike stroll around the Camarque with it’s bulls, horses and flamingos and encounter the unknown. Artists will have the opportunity to discuss and elaborate on their work and to enter into a dialogue with each other, work in their own timeframe - gather in the community kitchen to chat and the garden to chill or work.
