International Residency at Digital Arts Studios, Belfast

An opportunity to spend two months in Belfast developing your digital practice.

  •     Description of residency program

The DAS International Residency enables artists to come to Northern Ireland in order to develop their artistic practice supported by the facilities and resources of the Digital Arts Studios. The studios provide visiting artists with a productive, dynamic and friendly environment to develop work alongside a small group of peer residents. Please note the residency has been expanded to include all artists working with digital media based outside Northern Ireland.

  •    Duration of residency

Each International Residency at the Digital Arts Studios lasts approximately 8 weeks.

  •    Disciplines, work equipment and assistance

Professional artists based outside Northern Ireland working with any forms of digital media or technologies are welcome to apply. The residency provides participants with 24­hour access to the studios and a personal iMac workstation programmed with relevant software such as Final Cut Pro X and Adobe CS6. Residents also have access to a range of audio, video and photographic equipment and technical support.

  •    Accommodation

International residents are provided with self-catering shared living accommodation in Belfast.

  •    Studio/ workspace

Residents have their own personal iMAC workstation in the shared studios alongside a small group of peers.

  •    Fees and support

Successful applicants receive a stipend of £200 per month and are exempt from residency fees. Please note that participating artists must self-fund travel to and from Northern Ireland.

  •    Expectations towards the artist

As part of the International Residency, artists are required to deliver a public presentation of their practice in the form of a talk/workshop/event/screening etc., which will be advertised as part of the DAS programme.

Applicants must apply directly to DAS using the online application form available at Applicants must submit an artist bio and resume, project summary, detailed proposal and timeline, and 5 samples of work in jpg format, maximum file size 1MB. For more information see residency guidelines at Residents are selected by impartial adjudicators on the basis of materials submitted. In addition to artistic merit, consideration will be given as to whether the artist's practice is likely to benefit from the programme.

To be eligible to apply for a DAS residency, artists must have completed university level training in visual arts, hold an active exhibition record of at least two years in length, and show evidence of dedication in their pursuit of an artistic career.
