White nights in June 2018

Recharge and rethink! Kristinestad residency open for creatives in all disciplines.

Kristinestad Artists' Residency is a non-profit and artist/volunteer run organisation in Kristinestad on the Finnish West coast. This new programme is offered in cooperation with the municipal cultural affairs office and the local Spectra art association. We particularly welcome practitioners in visual arts, craft and design but also, for instance, musicians, writers and researchers.

We are now inviting artists for a 4-week stay between 4 and 30 June 2018 – a period ideal for experiencing the Nordic white nights with 24 hrs of daylight.

If you are into nature, silence and slow living, this setting is for you. For peace to concentrate on a personal project with few things to distract you, look no further. Collaborations with the local community are possible. Available resources and sources of inspiration include local architecture and crafts as well as our on-site printmaking workshop. We also encourage reflection on issues and practices that are central to the local and Finnish context.

We offer simple accommodation, workspace and wifi connection at the premises of the Spectra association, in an old wooden building. Residency hosts will be available for project assistance and feedback before and throughout the stay. It may relate to project research, materials and tools as well as finding contacts locally. End-of-residency exhibitions or shows are welcome but not obligatory.

The residency fee is 500 euro. We offer no grants, but selected candidates who have paid the registration fee will be issued a letter of support for seeking grants elsewhere.

To apply, please send us an informal letter by email and tell us why you would like to come to Kristinestad and what you would like to do during your residency. Details available on the website.

We would like to hear from you by 25 January. The selection will be announced in early February.
