Skálanes Art & Science Residency

Skálanes. A liquid idea and a solid action. Placed on a hillside at the mouth of a fjord in Iceland.

Description of residency program
We are the mountains, the wildlife, the native plants that compose our horizont. We are this environment which calls upon a humble respect and a serious responsibility. We are an independent point in the world of scientific research. We are supporting curious, constructive minds and actions into the unknown. We are an attempt to contribute to the body of new knowledge on the natural world and we are eager to meet the world outside our own minds. We collaborate across disciplines and across countries with individuals and institutions sharing our intention to take action in a current time of change. We imagine the change ahead of us, we look at remains of the life that came before us, and here we are now. We apply theory in praxis. We swim in the fjord and learn about the life in the waters surrounding Skálanes. We hike in the mountains andlearn about the wildlife and native plants. We make bonfires at the beach and question the impact of human kind. We look at ourselves and wonder how we can live ethical, meaningful lives.
