Spring Retreat in South West France

Call for applications from creatives working in clean media for a 4-week retreat in SW France.

Description
Studio Faire is a contemporary art space in South West France, providing residencies for artists, writers, musicians and all other types of creative practitioner.

Studio Faire is now accepting applications from writers, screenwriters, musicians, photographers and filmmakers for this 4 week residency in March/April 2019.

The residency is based in a beautiful Maison de maître built around 1840 and still retaining its period characteristics. Situated in the market town of Nérac, in the stunning Lot-et-Garonne region, on the northern edge of Gascony, here you will find the ‘real’ unspoilt France. Medieval Villages are surrounded by green rolling hills that lead your eye to the horizon via fruit orchards and vines. The perfect place to slow down and focus.

Duration of residency
4 weeks

Available Dates
21 march - 18 April

Disciplines and assistance
This particular residency is open to creative practitioners working in all clean media. Fine Artists should contact the venue to discuss alternative available dates.

Your hosts have many skills between them. Colin Usher is a Photographer and Digital Media expert and Julia Douglas a Mixed Media Artist (specialising in Textiles) and Web Designer. They are also well connected in the area and willing to share their knowledge and contacts with you during your stay. There will be two artists and a writer in residence also during this period with whom you can share information and ask for feedback.

A professional photoshoot of you and your work is also included.

Workspace / Accommodation
Residents live and work in the house, studios and gardens of Studio Faire. Rooms and studios are spacious and mature gardens offer private, shaded space for work and play.

The live/work space on offer during this period is in what is affectionately nicknamed 'The Usher Hall' (after the grand concert hall in Edinburgh) as it is a HUGE room (679cm x 460cm) and has a beautiful marble fireplace. Walls are currently stripped back to clean plaster. It has two big windows onto the front of the house (road side), so plenty of natural light from the North. There are shutters on the windows, so if you want to shut out the world, this is also easily achieved!

Fees
This 4 week self-directed residency is a self-funded residency for 1 person. Fees include The Usher Hall as a sleep/work space, plus shared shower room with toilet, kitchen, dining room and gardens. A professional photoshoot is also included.

4 weeks for 1 person is 960 €.

Expectations towards the artist
As this is a self-funded residency, Studio Faire has no expectations towards the resident and hope that this supportive environment, without the pressure to produce, will aid creativity, experimentation and the development of new ideas.

Studio Faire offers all creative practitioners a change of pace and the space to create.
