PLAYA | Art & Science Residency Program

We offer 2, 3, and 4-week residencies in a stunning desert wetland in the Oregon Outback.

Description of the residency program
Playa offer residencies of soul-expanding space, solitude, and community to artists and scientists whose creative inquiry and innovative dialogue help bring positive change to our environment and world. 

Disciplines, work equipment, and assistance
PLAYA’s residencies are open to artists, naturalists, biologists, designers, sustainability leaders, social practice artists, activists, musicians, visual artists, writers, performing artists, and collaborations and individuals engaged in interdisciplinary work or other forms of creative research.

Application information
PLAYA welcomes a range of applicants with an established history of accomplishment. However, applicants must exhibit a recent history of focused work within the discipline for which they are applying. In addition, they must address, in the application, their ability to thrive in a remote, isolated community and be self-directed in their work. All residents’ work must be compatible with PLAYA’s available studio spaces, facilities, and resources, and policies within PLAYA’s rural setting. Please follow this link to apply.

2, 3, or 4 weeks.

Plush Cabins, heated, comes with own kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and desk - not shared

Studio/ workspace
Writing and Visual Art studios:

- 4 multi-use visual art studios

- 8 writing studios

- Music Studio (not a recording studio)

- Printmaking and book art studio

Fees and support
Non provided, 35 dollar fee to apply

Expectations towards the artist
- Participate in one open house

- Opportunities to teach in the community - not expected but encouraged
