Deadline: 28/02/2019

Funded Summer Residency for Interactive Artists

Spend 1-3 months working on interactive art in an urban environment.

Laboratory’s mission is to provide practicing interactive artists with the time, space, and freedom to make awesome stuff. So we want to offer you space to live, space to work, tools, mentorship, and connections to make that happen. Plus, a $200 a month stipend if you have the right to work in the USA, so that's cool.

For our summer residency session, we’re partnering with Window Dressing and looking for projects specifically designed to inhabit empty storefronts! Our summer session runs from 01 June 2019 through 31 August 2019, and we’re accepting applications for 1-3 month residency periods within that time. We’d love to get yours; deadline is 28 February 2019.

Description of residency program
We're a residency program for practicing interactive artists to come and work on their projects

Duration of residency
1-3 months

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
We're a residency focused on interactive art. That often, but not necessarily, means technology, and to that end, we've got a bunch of tech stuff, like Kinects, Arduinos, and so many projectors. We also offer mentorship along those lines, although you should have at least a basic understanding of the technology you plan to use when coming here. For this summer session, we're looking specifically for storefront installation proposals.

Living and working spaces
You will have a private bedroom in a 2 bedroom apartment. You'll also have access to studio space on the floor below, that winds up being a mix of shared and private space, depending on how you and your cohort-mates work.

Fees and support
If you have work authorization in the US, you'll get a $200/month living stipend. Hooray!

Expectations towards the artist
You will be expected to complete your proposal and show it publicly in a storefront.

Application information
Instructions for application are on our website, but you'll basically be putting together 1 page about yourself, a 1 page proposal for what you'd do here, and send that to us.
