Writer’s Live/Work Retreat in South West France

2-week Writer´s Retreat in SW France. Offering a change of pace and the space to create.

Description of residency program
Studio Faire is a contemporary art space in South West France, providing residencies for artists, writers, musicians and all other types of creative practitioner.

Studio Faire is now accepting applications from writers, poets and screenwriters for this 2 week residency in May 2019.

The residency is based in a beautiful Maison de maître built around 1840 and still retaining its period characteristics. Situated in the market town of Nérac, in the stunning Lot-et-Garonne region, on the northern edge of Gascony, here you will find the ‘real’ unspoilt France. Medieval Villages are surrounded by green rolling hills that lead your eye to the horizon via fruit orchards and vines. The perfect place to slow down and focus.

Duration of residency
2 weeks

Available Dates
16 – 30 May 2019

Disciplines and assistance
This particular residency is open to creative practitioners working in all clean media.

Your hosts have many skills between them. Colin Usher is a Photographer and Digital Media expert and Julia Douglas a Mixed Media Artist (specialising in Textiles) and Web Designer. They are also well connected in the area and willing to share their knowledge and contacts with you during your stay. There will most likely be another resident at Studio Faire during your stay with whom you can share information and ask for feedback.

A professional photoshoot is also included.

Studio / workspace
The live/work space is in what we affectionately call the Usher Hall as it is a HUGE room (679cm x 460cm) and has a beautiful marble fireplace. We are in the process of decorating this room, so it will most likely be stripped back, clean plaster walls when you arrive. It has two big windows onto the front of the house (road side), so plenty of natural light from the North. There are shutters on the windows, so if you want to shut out the world, this is also easily achieved!

Your accomodation and work space will both be in the Usher Hall.

A maximum of three residents live and work in the house, studios and gardens of Studio Faire, alongside the hosts Julia Douglas and Colin Uhser and their two labradors. Rooms and studios are spacious and mature gardens offer private, shaded space for work and play.

This 2 week self-directed residency is a self-funded residency for 1 person. Fees include a private double bedroom/studio, plus shared shower room with toilet, kitchen, dining room and gardens. A professional photoshoot is also included.

2 weeks for 1 person is 640 €.

Expectations towards the artist
As this is a self-funded residency, Studio Faire has no expectations towards the artist and hope that this supportive environment, without the pressure to produce, will aid creativity, experimentation and the development of new ideas.

Studio Faire offers all creative practitioners a change of pace and the space to create.
