Open call - Creative residency in SW France

Self-Directed residency in South West France. Offering a change of pace and the space to create.

Studio Faire is a contemporary art space in South West France, providing residencies for artists, writers, designers and all other types of creative practitioner.

Studio Faire has only a few dates left for 2019 and is still accepting applications for the following 3 time periods.

29 August – 4 September (1 week)
19 September – 2 October (2 weeks)
31 October – 13 November (2 weeks)

The residency is based in a beautiful ‘Maison de maître’ built around 1840 and still retaining its period characteristics. Situated in the market town of Nérac, in the stunning Lot-et-Garonne region, on the northern edge of Gascony, here you will find the ‘real’ unspoilt France. Medieval Villages are surrounded by green rolling hills that lead your eye to the horizon via fruit orchards and vines. The perfect place to slow down and focus.

Disciplines and assistance
This residency is open to creative practitioners working in all media.

Your hosts have many skills between them. Colin Usher is a Photographer and Digital Media expert and Julia Douglas a Mixed Media Artist (specialising in Textiles) and Web Designer. They are also well connected in the area and willing to share their knowledge and contacts with you during your stay. There will be two other residents at Studio Faire during your stay with whom you can share information and ask for feedback.

A professional photoshoot is also included.

Studio & Accommodation
A choice of three private double bedrooms are available to residents. These rooms share a shower room with toilet. Accommodation is provided on a self-catering basis.

The artist’s ‘garage’ studio is cool and spacious and can be accessed from the bedrooms and kitchen.

The huge ‘living room’ studio offers an ideal studio space for writers, photographers or artists/makers requiring a clean space.

We also have a live/work space in what we affectionately call ‘The Usher Hall’ as it is a very generously proportioned room (679cm x 460cm), this is also ideal for all creative practitioners working in clean media.

The walled garden is enclosed, offering private, shaded space for reading or drawing under the mature trees, or for dining with fellow residents on the patio. Beyond that there is a wild park full of fruit trees, a perfect hideaway!

Even though the property sits on a main road, the large rooms and enclosed garden at the back give a feeling of isolation and are ideal places for focused work. The town is just a 10 minutes stroll away over the beautiful river Baïse, which trickles by just a five-minute walk from the house and is the perfect place to stretch your legs and clear your mind.

This self-directed residency is a self-funded residency. Fees include the private room and studio detailed above, plus shared bathroom, kitchen, dining room and gardens. A professional photoshoot is also included.

2 weeks for 1 person is 320€
2 weeks for 1 person is 640€

Expectations towards the artist
As this is a self-funded residency, Studio Faire has no expectations towards the artist and hope that this supportive environment, without the pressure to produce, will aid creativity, experimentation and the development of new ideas.

Studio Faire offers all creative practitioners a change of pace and the space to create.
