Summer Textile Installation

Textílsetur Íslands takes to the street with an inspiring, creative studio project.

In collaboration with Nes Artist Residency’s summer program, Summer We Go Public, Textílsetur Íslands takes to the street with an inspiring, creative studio project.

The Icelandic Textile Center aims to bring like-minded artists together to create an outside textile installation in Skagaströnd, Northern Iceland, for June and July 2013.

We are interested with any kind of street art, performance, or yarn bombing who will use fiber as first medium.

We are now accepting solo and collective project proposals to attend the residency for June and July. The emphasis for both months is the idea that all resident artists will work together on a collaborative installation to be included into the public art program in Skagaströnd at the end of July.

You will stay at the Textílsetur Íslands Residency in Blönduós with the access of all Textile facilities for spinning, crocheting, felting, dying, knitting or mixed textile techniques as a part of the residency.  Chosen artists from every cultures will need to manage together a textile installation. Skagaströnd is a 20 minute bus ride, so connection to the site for developing the installation will be easy and you’ll have the chance to exchange with others residents of Nes who will also transform the aesthetic of this small rural village.

The 24 hours-daylight is going to create a particular atmosphere as for the sheeps, free in the mountains, are a part of the icelandic’s summer landscapes.
