Residency opportunities for spring 2014

Titanik artist-in-residence programme (formerly known as SUMU) offers one- to three-month residencies to artists working with the broad concept of sound.

Titanik residency is run by the ARTE Artists’ Association in Turku, southwestern coast of Finland. ARTE’s aim is to promote contemporary art in the city, as well as improve the professional, social and economical benefits of the local artists. Titanik A.i.R, founded in 2006, is the first sound art residency in Finland.

The Titanik residency studio is situated in the centre of Turku, adjoined to the contemporary art gallery Titanik. Artists are provided with free accommodation, travel card within Turku city and a possibility to use tools and audiovisual equipment. Upon agreement, residency artists are also able host an exhibition in Titanik’s studio space, on Titanik’s website or public location.

The artists must fund all their living expenses including food and transportation. ARTE can help the artists with material costs up to 200 euros depending on the application.

Applications are accepted both via mail and e-mail. The information can be provided as print-outs or attachment files.

Application instructions

Please prepare an individual submission, including:

- Short, clear and realistic project plan (max one page).

   Please specify, whether you are planning to work on a

   new piece or continue an old one.

- Short motivation statement (max one page).

- CV (max one page) plus artist’s homepage.

- Maximum of 10 minutes worth of work samples in PC

   format (CD/ DVD) or as a web link to the sample

   material.

- Samples of recent work as print-outs or attachment

   files (3–5 pieces).

Also include the following details:

- Preferred date and time period of residency.

- Possible interest in hosting an exhibition, artist talk or

   other event.
