The Wassaic Artist Residency
Brief description of organisation
The Wassaic Artist Residency is an artist-run, sustainable, multidisiplinary arts organization located in our historic hamlet of Wassaic, NY. We facilitate artists, performers, and participants to exhibit, perform, discuss, and connect with art, creative writing, each other, our unique site, and the surrounding community. Artists-in-residence are encouraged to experiment with new ways of working that we share and celebrate during our public programs. Visitors to The Wassaic Artist Residency are invited to see art in new ways in this unique and welcoming setting.
Our programs generate dialogue and collaboration across geographic, ideological, and disciplinary boundaries. The Wassaic Artist Residency\\\\\\´s activities include a year-round artist and writing residency, an annual summer festival/exhibition, and a series of public programs throughout the year including open studios. We also offer studio visits/critiques for artists involved with the organization by guest curators and visiting artists, and artist workshops with community members.
The Wassaic Artist Residency values community engagement, experimentation, and having fun.

Brief description of residency program
The Wassaic Artist Residency is a year round residency program that houses 9-11 artists every month. 80+ artists a year.
Artists will receive an adaptable raw studio space in the historic livestock barn. All studios are roughly 200-300 square feet. Artists will have 24 hour access to their studio and accommodations which include a private bedroom, shared living room / study, dining room, kitchen, and bath. Artists also have access to workshop facilities as well as the potential for expansion of workshop space and the possibility of working outside. The residency workshop facilities include a wood shop and a silkscreen studio.
Residents are required to bring everything they need for their creative practice including art materials. Each studio is provided with a table, chair and limited lighting.
**Local artists who do not need living accommodations are encouraged to apply for studio-only residencies.
2013 Artist Residents are invited to exhibit work in the 2014 Wassaic Project Annual Summer Festival. See photos of last years festival!
All artists are required to participate in a monthly evening of conversation consisting of artist’s talks, films, performances, and presentations, followed by a themed round-counter dinner discussion in the residency houses. Artists are also required to be available during monthly open-studios.
Additionally, the Wassaic Artist Residency facilitates one-on-one studio visits with professional artists and curators.
SILK SCREEN STUDIO
During the summer months in Wassaic we have a silk screen studio available to all residents. Breanne Trammell, our fabulous 2011 Print Fellow and Artist Resident, has started a blog for the printshop which will hopefully answer all your questions about silk screen printing and life and unicorns.
Please refer to the Wassaic Project’s printshop blog for information about silk screen shop: http://wassaicproject.tumblr.com/
Residents have 24 hour access to the residency wood shop, located in Luther Barn along with the summer studios. Our wood shop is fully stocked and our sculpture fellows are available by appointment to help with specific projects. For a full list of what tools we have please email email@example.com.
