General information

Brief description of organisation

CAMP is run by Fuse Art Space, one of the UK\'s most dynamic and forward-thinking independent art facilities. We host exhibitions, concerts, film screenings, workshops and other events - we have had the pleasure of staging the likes of Philip Jeck, Matana Roberts, Elysia Crampton, Rene Hell, Ela Orleans, Islam Chipsy, Container, Eric Chenaux, Richard Dawson, Karen Gwyer and many others.

We are not-for-profit, and run by volunteers. For more information on Fuse Art Space, see www.wearefuse.co

Brief description of residency program

Nestled in the French Pyrenees at 750m altitude, 10km from the Spanish border and surrounded by snowcapped peaks, waterfalls and forests, is the picturesque thermal town of Aulus-les-bains. In the town, housed in a beautifully renovated 19th century hotel, is CAMP - the first of a new breed of arts residency. In 2018, CAMP will run a series of arts, music, writing and arts-activist sessions. These are no ordinary courses - they are intense, artistic catalysts run by internationally acclaimed practitioners.

Session announced so far include:

> Environmental Sound Recording with Chris Watson

> Video & Installation Art with Laure Prouvost

> Live Art with Anne Bean

> Modern Composition with Gavin Bryars

> Deep Listening, Mediatation and Laughter with Laraaji

> Recording, composing & making installations with Christina Kubisch

> Experimental Composition & Performance with Eli Keszler

> Screenwriting with Walter Donahue

> Apartment House Soundings

CAMP houses advanced facilities available to all residential students - a Pro Tools studio, digital video and photography editing suites, rehearsal and performance spaces, fine art studios, a cinema and an arts library. Accommodation is provided at the centre in peaceful, private rooms, and all catering is included - this is one of the most celebrated regions of France for cheese, wine and other local produce. It´s a place where great art is made, new movements are formed, new ideas are explored and groundbreaking people are nurtured. It´s about generating revolutions, incubating creative minds and bringing the best emerging practitioners in all artistic fields to their full potential.

How to reach

By train

Get your ticket from http://www.voyages-sncf.com and head for Toulouse Matabiau.

Once you get to Toulouse: from Toulouse bus station (next to the train station) get the 952 bus to Saint-Girons. Get off at the last stop, grab a coffee and wait for the next bus to Aulus. To check times and prices, a great site is https://www.rome2rio.com

By plane

Toulouse (TLS) is the closest airport, 1.5 hours drive from CAMP. Other possibilities, though further away, are Carcassone, Pau and Perpignon.

By car

From Toulouse, head southwest on the A64 to Junction 20, exit onto the D117. Continue to Saint-Girons, then follow the D3 to Oust, then the D32 to Aulus-les-bains. Aulus is signposted all the way from Saint-Girons. If you\'re coming from Spain or east France, you should arrive via the N20 - at Tarascon, take the D8, then the D18. Again, signposts are at all junctions.
