Brief description of residency program

The Anderson Center has grown to become the largest artist residency community in Minnesota and the 2nd largest in the Upper Midwest. It is one of the very few such retreats in the entire United States that brings together such a varied group of people - dancers, archaelogists, poets, painters, composers, historians, folklorists, writers, scholars, photographers, translators, and anthropologists - through its residency program.

Each year, from May through October, the Center makes available private time and space to some 35 artists, writers, and scholars from the United States and abroad. Residencies, which include meals and lodging at the Center, are month-long with rare exceptions for two-week stays, during which time resident-fellows are expected to work on a clearly defined project and to make a substantive contribution to the community in the form of a talk, class, or performance of their work. Virtually every school, library, senior citizen center, correctional institution, and cultural organization in the Red Wing area benefit each year from this important program of the Anderson Center.
