Brief description of organisation

Tokyo Arts and Space (TOKAS) is an art center dedicated to the generation and promotion of new art and culture from the heart of Tokyo. Based in TOKAS Hongo and TOKAS Residency, Tokyo Arts and Space supports and nurtures young talent in all fields as well as takes a role as a hub in a global cultural network of affiliated cultural facilities in Japan and abroad, and at once a platform for both new talents and internationally active creators to exchange and showcase their works. In addition, The residency was relocated to Sumida in 2014, offering the opportunity for creative individuals from all genres and nationalities to pursue their respective work in a shared process. Through various joint programs, the three venues will continue their broad array of artistic activities in order to provide creators with a stage for creative work.

*"Tokyo Arts and Space (TOKAS)" is the new name of former Tokyo Wonder Site (TWS) as of October 1, 2017.

Brief description of residency program

TOKAS Residnecy offers two open call residency programs for international creators.

-International Creator Residency Program
Target: skilled middle-careered creators based outside Japan, who are willing to explore new creative activities.
Support: self-contained single room, shared studio, round-trip air ticket, per diem, and artist fee/ project fee.
Residency Period: 3 months

-Research Residency Program
Target: creators who are willing to conduct research activities with their own theme(s) on arts and culture in the city of Tokyo.
Support: self-contained single room and support for research activities.
Residency Period: 1 month/ 2 months
