Hrisey - Old School

General information

Brief description of organisation

Hrísey, the island, is by the north coast of Iceland, short from the arctic circle. The island is surrounded with a breathtaking view of the mountains on the coast of Eyjafjordur and the atmosphere will put you back in time of peace and wonderful nature. Perfect inspiration for artists.
The old schoolhouse has been decorated (facilitated) with four bedrooms and working area for three so individuals or groups can work their art.
The Old Schoolhouse is centered in the small village on the south coast of the island, with a good view over the area, ca. 10 min. walk from the harbor. Population is about 170 persons.
The island is 7,0 km2 and 7,5 km long. The only way to get to the island is by the ferry Sævar from Árskógssandur. It’s scheduled every hour in the summertime (different winter schedule) and takes approx. 20 min. There is a bus from Akureyri to the harbor of Árskógssandur (ca. 30 min. drive).
Service in the village of Hrísey: restaurant, shop, post office, bank and swimming pool.
Easy access to beautiful nature, bird watching and walking trails around the island.
In Old Schoolhouse is everything you need for pleasant stay: four different bedrooms, working area for three persons or groups, internet connection, sitting room combined with kitchen. Shower, washing machine, television, library etc.
The Old school is owned by the art group Nordanbal.
