Hafnarborg

General information

Brief description of organisation

Hafnarborg – The Hafnarfjörður Centre of Culture and Fine Art exhibits works by leading Icelandic and international artists. The temporary exhibition programme features contemporary artists and established artists from the early 20th century.

The exhibitions explore Icelandic art history, ranging from important works by the pioneers of Icelandic art to the more experimental arts of today. The Collection is mainly Icelandic, with a notable contribution from Eiríkur Smith (1925-2016), a leading 20th century Icelandic artist. Exhibitions from the Collection are a regular part of the museum program.

In connection with the exhibitions, there are regular workshops, guided tours, seminars and an educational programme for schools. Guided tours in English are offered upon request. Hafnarborg also hosts regular Midday Concerts and the contemporary concert programme Hljóðön.
