Brief description of organisation

Kriti Gallery & Residency is a private initiative started by Navneet Raman.
Born in Varanasi, raised in a Krishnamurti School in South India.
Navneet has a large network in the Indian world of arts and in the international art world.
His vision is to create a center for the arts including a place for the Banaras Visual archives and to support the UNESCO nomination activities for the world heritage site through an initiative called Art for Banaras.
He enjoys art, a green environment, the Banaras life style with good food, arts and music and friends.
He lives in the residency.
The Kriti team supports artists projects with networks, background information and advice whenever needed.

Brief description of residency program

Kriti Gallery & Artist Residency is a gallery cum residency for contemporary Western and Indian art. All kind of medias and performance arts are represented.
The residency is open for artists of all fields, researchers, students of arts.
Over the past 10 years about 180 artists from all over the world have lived and worked at Kriti.

Our vision is to inspire artist, to encourage artists to engage with the local communities in the city.
Kriti provides space and networks to interact with art, culture, history and handicrafs.
During a residency you allow your ideas and curiosity to turn into a project or you do research in the field of your interest. The team at Kriti is happy to support your work with our networks and knowledge.

Beside exhibitions we are able to host events of music, theatre, dance, literature, ceramics, print-making, painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media, film, social art projects and video and many more.

Local networks ( craftspeople, institutions, Banaras Hindu University etc. in Varanasi or across India ) are an important facilitator for your ideas and work, we are happy to share our contacts with you, we are available to answer your questions and support your needs.

Our heritage walks help to visualize the uniqueness of the city, its people and their life and introduce you to the city.

The residency is about 3km away from the river Ganges,
a 10 min ride by bicycle rickshaw, surrounded by a big garden for contemplation, reading, gatherings and work,
we are in a semi-modern residential area.

Who can apply?
All artists, researchers who are eager to interact with India, the local culture and life in Varanasi.

We are open for applications all year round, no deadlines!
The residency is open from September through end May for monthly residencies.

Kriti Artist Residency offers
four 2-room private studios including a workroom (fan), a bedroom (A/C + fan) and private bathroom.
one 1-room private studio including workroom (fan), single bedroom (A/C + fan) and private bathroom
Provisions for breakfast, fruits, home-cooked vegetarian lunches and dinners from Monday-Saturday.
Sunday provisions for self-cooking.

Includes filter drinking water, pick-up at arrival, Wi-Fi, heritage walk to introduce the city, use of washing machine etc..
Fyi, there is a yoga studio around the corner and possibilities to learn music, dance and singing classes in the city.

Kriti Gallery & Residency is a private organisation and cannot provide financial support. We provide support for artists mainly related to their artistic work through networks and help organise their local projects. Letters of acceptance can be provided for grant applications.
