Residency at the Artists Coalition (RAC)

General information

Brief description of organisation

Founded in 1975, Kansas City Artists Coalition (KCAC) continues to fulfill its mission of helping artists find audiences for their work through exhibition opportunities and educational programming. KCAC the oldest artist-run, visual arts non-profit in Kansas City. The work we do, made possible by the contributions of donors and volunteers, serves artists who will establish careers and contribute to the cultural conversation and commerce of our city, nation and world.

KCAC operates an established gallery space in Kansas City’s River Market neighborhood for local, national and international art exhibitions. We offer professional development workshops at low or no cost to members and non-members alike. Arts based networking groups meet regularly at KCAC for informal discussions that allow for mentoring of and by artists at all stages of their careers.

Brief description of residency program

Residency at the Artists Coalition (RAC) offers dedicated individuals a supportive environment to further their creative and professional development. It is a self-directed program meant to provide time and space for artists to create their best work. RAC is open to artists in all media.

The RAC facility is in the same building as the Kansas City Artists Coalition offices and galleries. RAC can accommodate up to four artists at any time. It includes one large shared studio, an outdoor work area, a full kitchen, two shared bathrooms, three single occupancy bedrooms and one double occupancy bedroom.

RAC is located in the River Market, a highly desirable urban neighborhood of Kansas City. The nearby City Market ( provides year round groceries, sundries and restaurants featuring local and international fare. Mass transit including the free Kansas City Streetcar allows greater access to museums, theaters and art supplies.

Residency at the Artists Coalition partners with the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City Art Institute, Belger Crane Yard Studios and Print League KC to provide additional facilities and lecture opportunities for residency artists. These affiliations offer a more fulfilling experience and opportunity to connect on a broader basis with the thriving Kansas City art community and beyond.
