General information

Brief description of organisation

Sachaqa Centro De Arte welcomes artists to the district of San Roque De Cumbaza in the Province of Lamas - located one hour from the city of Tarapoto at a height of 700 m.

Sachaqa stands at the edge of the small jungle village of San Roque De Cumbaza. Where we can feel integrated into village life. With only 1508 residents you will quickly feel part of our extended family community. The River Cumbaza is our blessing where we can relax on the river beach and enjoy cooling off in pools and small waterfalls.

Situated only a 40-minute walk from lookout points of - national park ‘Cordellera Escalera.’

We offer jungle trecks and the opportunity to explore indigenous villages. Through our partnering ecotour operator - Sacharuna Adventure.

Brief description of residency program

Artists have the option to spend time in the studio, surrounded by nature and away from all distractions. A unique opportunity. Allowing artists to deeply enter into their creative process.

Open to painters, writers, photographers, filmmakers, musicians, sculptors and ceramicists.

One-month activity programs:
painting - found pigments and ecological paper.
sculpture trail - towards a lookout point of conservation area Cordillera Escalera.
ceramics – learn directly from indigenous artisans of the Chazutino and Lamista culture.
music - write and produce a live concert and record your song.
photography - explore the area with guide and photographer enthusiast Daniel Lerner. Learn from a local photographer - an expert in nature photography.

Periodically we conduct cultural art events. In partnership with various organizations and local institutions. Thus creating a cultural platform, which is shared and lived by merging creativity styles - in all its expressions.

We also offer individual or group exhibitions for our residents. Typically near the end of their stay. These events can be arranged in one of a number of small venues in Tarapoto.
