Brief description of residency program

Part 3 of our residency program Cut The Crap is called Silent Speech, and will take place in August en September 2016. You can apply now for this two-month residency project, until February 1st. More about CTC#3:

SILENT SPEECH focuses on the human stories behind the greater conflicts: on stories from soldiers and civilians; on the many stories that didn’t find their way into the media, but which linger in the daily life of the everyday man. Personal tales – true or false, complete or incomplete - which were born in times of conflict.

During a war situation people are always on one side or the other, a good side or a bad side depending on whose side they’re on. Both, however, have their own record of the facts about which we normally hear just one side. Life as it is … in wartime.

This residency period addresses the themes of these possible stories rooted in harsh times. We challenge artists to research and explore this theme. Artists working within this framework, whether they deal with contemporary global conflicts or research the historical dynamics of the Great War, are welcome to take part in this programme.

The residency will start on Tuesday 16th of August 2016 and will last 8 weeks. A first public exhibition/performance of the project is planned on the 30rd of september 2015. Het Entrepot sincerely believes in the importance of synergies with the local (art)community and therefore encourages its residents to develop their project proposals as well as the actual residency with this ideal in mind.

‘Gone West’ is a project organized by the province of West-Flanders (Belgium) dedicated to the commemoration of The Great War (1914-1918). Het Entrepot in Bruges is launching the residential program ‘C.T.C.’ for artists from around the world working in the field of visual arts. This program will last five years. Every year two artists will be invited to come and work in Het Entrepot.

During two months artists will have the chance to research, develop and create an art project. This project will be presented at Het Entrepot and might include an intervention in the public/ urban space which will relate to the subject of the residency in response to the environment and to the history of the region.
