La Ira de Dios

General information

Brief description of organisation

La Ira de Dios is an independent nonprofit project in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
We facilitate artistic exchange and develop contemporary art practice through residencies, partnerships and public programming.

La Ira de Dios was founded in 2010 as a space dedicated to exhibitions and seminars for emerging artists. In 2014 we moved to an industrial warehouse in search of more experimental projects. As part of this process, we began to develop international residency programs.

Since 2010 we have held more than 40 exhibitions, and more than 70 artists and curators from 23 countries participated in our residency programs.

Our two floor building is located in the Villa Crespo neighborood, one of the most vibrant spots in Buenos Aires art scene. We have 500 square meters of available space compromising of 7 studios and an exhibition space of 140 square meters, which turns into an open working area during a residency program.

We currently offer studios to artists; hold a program of exhibitions for emerging artists; and develop three residence programs a year that allow national and international artists to research and work together.

Brief description of residency program

We host three residency programs a year, each lasting for a month. We also receive artists all year long to work in private studios for up to 6 months.

We select a group of international and local artists who will partake in a number of workshops as they immerse themselves in new or ongoing projects.
Each program is under the guidance of a selected curator. The curator leads the regular work meetings, follows each project and coordinate the final event. Residents also have the assistance of both a production coordinator and the directors of the project, Carolina Magnin and Pablo Caligaris.

The residency culminates in an open studio which is an integral part of our program of exhibitions. The schedule of activities also includes visits to relevant art spaces in Buenos Aires, open presentations of the participants, and visits from other educational programs, artists, curators, and critics.

This residency is open to emerging and established artists from a range of disciplines. LID grants all artists from Argentina and international artists through specific agreements. For artists applying for grants and scholarships in their home country, LID can provide official documents and letters of invitation.

+ Program duration: 4-8 weeks
+ Accommodation: the artists stay in private rooms in local artists apartments located very close to our space
