AARK Archipelago Art Residency in Korpo

General information

Brief description of organisation

AARK is a non profit Artist-Run, independent local association run by a small family team, by visual artist Renja Leino, since 2015.

The residency is located on an island in the middle of Turku Archipelago in a small apartment building - old ferry staff family house - from 1960.

The building is located right by the sea near to the car ferry that operates between the islands Korpo and Nauvo and is easily accessible by public transport. Bus stop outside the house. Across the water you can see Nauvo and where the ferry for the islands in the outer archipelago leaves from, ex. www.uto.fi. You can see the sea route from both apartments.

The archipelago area is touristy in summer, with more traffic and people around, but quite isolated in the off season, which in Finland pretty much means from September - May. This residency – due to its somewhat secluded location - demands some independency from the visitor. All four seasons are interesting!

Brief description of residency program

We are looking for Art Professionals from all disciplines for whome the archipelago nature and the surrounding seaside could be an interesting area to contemplate or a theme to work on.

Our special area is the unique archipelago, with the Archipelago National Park and biosphere area; light summer nights as well as star nights and winter possibly frozen sea when a heavy winter - AARK has something specific to offer around the year. Our location is by the seaside and nearby forest.
Our residency can offer a quiet retreat as well a more social setting - depending on the artist’s needs and other art professionals visiting.

We encourage a dialog between the visiting artists, both national and international quests and a dialog with local people and the environment.
