Mary Sky

General information

Brief description of organisation

The Mary Sky Residency is an opportunity for artists to get quiet in nature and have a personal development experience. Self-driven prolific artists are encouraged to apply. Please note, residencies are ten days. (Arrive on Day 1 & depart on Day 10).

The Residency is designed to give artists an experience of communing with nature and their own innate spirituality as they delve into meaningful work. The Residency is also an opportunity for artists to get to know Mary Sky and vice versa.

The Residency develops connections with driven, talented artists and fosters mutually beneficial relationships that forward the artists’ position in the art world and recognition of their work.

We encourage emerging and established artists of all disciplines to apply. We´re working toward establishing a permanent exhibition space near the residency site.

To challenge oneself in life is a path to challenging oneself in work.If you are uncomfortable in a camping setting or find going outdoors to access a bathroom or shower a hindrance to your work, this residency is probably not a good fit for you.

To ensure you are informed and prepared for the rustic nature of this experience, please contact us with any questions you may have.

Brief description of residency program

The Mary Sky Artist Residency is a haven for artists looking to bring a serious attitude and productive mindset to meaningful work

Hosted in a tiny cabin adjacent to National Forest Lands and overlooking the White River. Although the cabin itself is “off-grid,” the resident actually has access to grid electricity. Running water is fetched by the resident from an artesian mountain well on site. The cabin is fully insulated and heated. The tiny cabin has 140ft² of living space and 100ft² of sheltered outdoor studio space. The interior is equipped with a camping stove for cooking, loft bed, rug, chair, table, coffee, tea, kettle, and small library. (Feel free to bring a book to donate to other residents during your stay!)

Accepted applicants receive a $500 stipend to spend on tools and materials, which become their property, as is any work they produce during the Residency. Artists in residence also receive a $200 stipend toward food in the form of a credit at the nearest General Store (3 miles away).

Applications accepted from January through May 1. We notify accepted by the end of May of same-year placement. Residency runs June through October.
