QUEENS Collective

General information

Brief description of organisation

The QUEENS COLLECTIVE is a community art space in Marrakech, Morocco. Queens Collective is a multidisciplinary platform for emerging and established, international and local artists and a physical space where its members live, create and present their work. The framework of Queens Collective is partly created by the members and is in constant flux. It is partly created by what already exists.

Thanks to its setting in a city with a rich cultural history and a vibrant contemporary art scene, Queens Collective is capable of initiating a spontaneous dialogue between past and present, and the local and global community.

The collective has interest in cultural activism, feminism, community engagement and artistic exploration. QC stands for gender equality, female empowerment and vulnerable communities.
The collective believes in the common as a way of being together that fosters care, lightness, empowerment, life and beauty. It entails the integration of freedom and responsibilities.

Queens Collective is founded and run by artists of different backgrounds, promoting social transformation and productivity through artistic, cultural, and educational programs.
The core of Queens Collective is communal development through four principles embodied in the programs and activities: cultural and social awareness, shared responsibility, creativity and local networks development.

All members organizes themselves in the space with accommodation, food, workspace, cleaning etc. Eating together is one of the most important aspects of the moroccan culture.

Members have the possibility to network with Moroccan artists and other visiting artists. The QC house is already a well established event space in Marrakech which facilitates the getting into the Marrakech art scene.

There are weekly dates for activities for the local community of Marrakech (girls and women). These activities are proposed and run by all members of the Collective.
Every 2 months, members invite the local community to a public presentation to share individual and collaborative works, and work in progress.
