General information

Brief description of organisation

EDITION/Basel is a printmaking program for professional artists based in Basel, Switzerland. Our home base is the druckwerk printmaking studio, located in the Werkraum Warteck PP building, a former brewery. The shop has an incredible collection of machines, tools, lithography stones, and lead and wooden type for printing, as well as a good array of paper, ink, and relief printmaking supplies on hand. During the year, the shop hosts individual artist residencies and also runs weekly workshops in relief and lithographic printing techniques.

EDITION/Basel was started in 2012 by Megan Adie, a printmaker and professional musician from the US who was living in Basel, Switzerland at that time. She was joined in 2013 by Margarit Lehmann, a Swiss artist and curator, and together the two artists have organized and managed operations of one or two sessions each summer since.

Looking forward, Megan and Margarit have an interest in fostering both creative and socio-cultural exchanges, and in pursuance of this goal have begun to create satellite programs in other print shops around the world. In 2017, Margarit organized and secured funding for a 12 day program in Havana, Cuba, at the Taller Experimental de Grafica for a group of Cuban, Swiss and American artists. The artwork from this collaboration was shown in exhibitions in Havana, Zürich, Basel, and San Francisco. Several other similar projects are currently in the works.
