La Barre Artist Residency

General information

Brief description of residency program

The La Barre Artist Residency is an artist-run initiative run on a small winery and livestock farm in Chalais, France. Located in the Parc Naturel Regional De La Brenne the Residency provides emerging and mid-career artists with a large shared studio; access to a shared workshop with a wide range of power operated and handheld tools; and large plein air painting stretches. We have fifteen acres of land and have outdoor facilities for artists from all disciplines.

The residency does not follow a set program, rather it provides the time, space and a serene atmosphere for artists to develop their personal projects.

The farm has daily activities that artists are welcome to partake in. These include gardening, animal care and upkeep, wine, spirit and liqueur making, curing meats, pickling vegetables and bread making - to name but a few.
