THE FARM MARGARET RIVER

General information

Brief description of organisation

The Farm Margaret River is located 3 hours south of Perth, Western Australia in the Beautiful Margaret River Region.

Margaret River is a small town, known for its craft breweries, surrounding wineries, beaches and famous surf breaks that line the coast.

It is a working farm that has transformed existing buildings, such as the hay and machinery sheds, into working studios.

The property is nestled amongst a rural community that is interested in holistic and sustainable living practices.

Brief description of residency program

Our project aims to bring together artists and agri-culturalists who are focused on developing projects that are rooted in country, in the soil, air and water of this specific location. We offer residencies for large scale and long term projects, and our studios are available for short term use.

We have a number of artist studios that are available for both short and long term stays. These studios are available in conjunction with our Artist in Residence program, and are open to artists and agriculturalists from both Australia and overseas. The Farm Margaret River has an emphasis on land art, however, all mediums are supported and considered upon application.

Chris Booth was the Artist in Residence from March through to April of 2017.

The renowned New Zealand environmental sculptor, worked onsite creating a Kinetic Living Sculpture at The Farm. His sculpture, Goorbal Beela, is a site-specific, culturally-sensitive installation, composed mostly of stone and organic materials. It was informed following engagement with the Indigenous custodians and research into the natural history of the area.
