Artist Residency Chattanooga

General information

Brief description of organisation

It´s always been our mission to broaden and expand the arts through exhibitions, education, and community outreach. What began as a lofty idea has become a cultural project with a network of resources for visiting artists and the local community, encouraging shared experiences and reciprocal collaboration & growth among creatives.

ARC was collaboratively conceived by Aaron Cowan & Adam Kirby in 2015; They both continue to work with local arts organizations including the Association for Visual Arts, the Chattanooga Film Festival, Scenic City Clay Arts, Flashlight Shows, Take Art Leave Art, the Chattanooga Comix Co-op, and others. Through this and other efforts they are working to grow Chattanooga into an arts destination and cultural hub.

Brief description of residency program

Artist Residency Chattanooga connects artists abroad with Chattanooga to develop their professional practice while educating and diversifying the arts culture, providing dedicated time and space in the Scenic City for artists to work, research & develop ideas. ARC is a quarterly not-for-profit artist incubator, developed by artists, for artists. ARC’s core mission is to provide dedicated time/space for an artist to work, create and innovate all against the back drop of our beautiful city of Chattanooga and it’s nationally recognized art community. ARC residents will stay in Chattanooga for the duration of one month during which time ARC provides studio space, living accommodations and other important resources with the residency culminating in a month long Gallery exhibition. While here, residents act as cultural ambassadors for our local arts community as well providing community outreach via lectures, studio visits, and workshops. There are several opportunities for interviews, press releases, and possible reviews of the exhibition during the residency, as well as networking opportunities with local artists and arts institutions.
