PADA

General information

Brief description of organisation

PADA is an artist-led, not for profit, arts organisation based in Barreiro in Lisbon’s South Bay.

Set in a derelict industrial park with a history dating back to 1885, PADA offers artists time and space to develop their practice through the exploration of technique and process.

Bringing together like minded artists with the aim of developing a creative hub for the exchange of knowledge and skills in the fabrication and execution of art.

The Residency Programme runs alongside our long term studios, creating an environment conducive to dialogue, collaboration and sharing of knowledge between the two programmes.

Participating artists are expected to engage with the overall programme objectives, to contribute to a collective enterprise, and be open to work with others.

PADA also run a gallery program exhibiting international artists and host events and exhibitions throughout the year.

Brief description of residency program

The residency at PADA welcomes applications from artists in a variety of media for a duration of 1-3 months.

Artists are provided with large studio space and accommodation with a private double bedroom.

The studios can accommodate 6 artists each month wishing to immerse themselves in their work and/or research.

We provide them with the space to explore practices, concepts, new ideas and materials and to develop a project while receiving feedback and support.

Set in an industrial park in Barreiro on Lisbon’s South Bay, artists will be surrounded by history as well as contemporary craftsmen providing inspiration, material knowledge and the resources for experimentation and production.

At the beginning of the residency, PADA will host tours of Lisbon and the surrounding area alongside local experts and historians.

The programme is designed for artists wishing to immerse themselves in their work and/or research. PADA residency program is run in conjunction with PADA’s Studio & Gallery Programmes, the artists benefit from collaboration with these programmes and interaction with a variety of national and international artists. At the end of the residency, artists are invited to use the Gallery space at PADA to present the work that has been developed during their stay.
