BAiR Winter provides time and space for artists to create.

Description of residency program
The Banff Artist in Residence (BAiR) program in Visual + Digital Arts provides time and space for artists, curators, and arts professionals to create, research, experiment, and cultivate new directions in their work.
In addition to private studio space and facility use, artists are surrounded by a community of artistic peers and have the opportunity to attend inspiring talks and performances by world-renowned visiting artists, all within the Centre’s spectacular mountain setting. 

Duration of residency
4 weeks

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
Residencies are for visual artists, curators, researchers, and other arts professionals with an exhibition/publication record, who have had formal training in visual arts or equivalent experience and recognition from their peers. Our knowledgeable staff will be on hand to offer demonstrations, technical support, and provide access to facilities in photography, sculpture, printmaking, papermaking, ceramics, fibre, video, digital technology, and more. 

Artist can choose from single or shared accommodation based on availability

Studio/ workspace
Create in one of our specialized studios and utilize shared production facilities in printmaking, ceramics, sculpture, photography, digital media and more. Collaborative groups share studio space. 

Fees and support
Program fee per week (shared room): $805 CAN
Program fee per week (single room): $1008 CAN
Financial aid up to 50% of the program fee is available. 

Expectations towards the artist
Throughout the residency, artists will have opportunities to hone their individual practice or collaborate with others, present work to their peers, engage in critique, attend lectures and events across campus, and learn from demonstrations in various visual art production techniques. An open studio event is scheduled at the end of the residency and is open to all artists at the Banff Centre and the public.
