World-class facilities and 10 weeks of studio time in a beautiful mountain setting.

Description of residency program
Anderson Ranch’s Artists-in-Residence Program fosters creative, intellectual and professional growth for emerging and established visual artists. Residents have access to world-class facilities and 10 weeks of studio time, free from everyday pressures. Residents can pursue interdisciplinary projects among a community of working artists, and gain feedback from prominent Visiting Artists and Critics.

Duration of residency
10 weeks

The residency is offered during two terms each year (approximate dates):
Fall Term: October – December (ten weeks)
Spring Term: February – April (ten weeks)

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
The Ranch setting is specifically crafted to aid artists in the production of their work. Residencies are offered in ceramics, new media, photography, furniture design, woodworking, painting, drawing, printmaking and sculpture.

Approximately 14 artists will be in residence during each term. The Ranch strives to have an equal mix of emerging and established artists working together. Current housing and studio space allows for the following numbers of residencies in each area, each term:

Ceramics: 4
Photography & New Media: 2
Furniture Design & Woodworking: 2
Painting & Drawing: 2
Printmaking: 2
Sculpture: 2

Residents must declare themselves as either emerging or established artists.

Emerging Artist
Open to any age over 18. Designed for artists in the critical early stages of their career who would benefit from ten weeks of time to focus on their work. Typical residents might include those who completed B.F.A. or M.F.A. programs within the past ten years. Most will not have had the opportunity to have a significant exhibition in a gallery or museum or have a piece yet placed in major collections.

Established Artist
Open to any age over 18. Designed for those who have established a career in the visual arts. Typical residents might include those who have had a major exhibition, and/or had pieces placed in major collections. They may also teach visual arts in respected colleges and universities. Most will have had more than ten years of active 

Accommodation
Anderson Ranch has its own housing facility on campus. Each resident stays in her/her own private room with private bath located in the Wyly House, a dormitory for residents and students. All meals are provided in the Ranch Cafe, which is adjacent to the Wyly House.

Studio/ workspace
Anderson Ranch provides spacious studios for our Artists-in-Residence. The studios are shared and provide ample space in which to work. Artistic Directors, Studio Coordinators and Interns are available to support residents with all projects. Fees and support
The residency is designed to allow artists to take risks and pursue new projects and ideas. Resident artists will be provided housing, studio space, meals and certain other benefits and will be required to submit a residency fee of $1,500.

Four of the 28 residencies are fully funded fellowships awarded by the jury panel.

Expectations towards the artist
Artists-in-Residence are expected to give a short, 5-minute talk about their work for the Anderson Ranch community at the start of their residency. Residents may also volunteer to speak at other area arts organizations or volunteer their time in art activities as part of Anderson Ranch's community outreach. An open house is scheduled at the end of each 10-week residency, where the public is invited to tour the artistic studios and view resident work.

Application information
The application deadline for the Fall/Spring Artists-in-Residence Program deadline is FEBRUARY 15, and must be submitted via our online application form.

Notifications to applicants/recipients will be made by early April.
