Dark Skies Self-Funded Residencies

Dark Skies Residencies in England´s highest village with panoramic views of rural Northumberland.

Description of residency program
ACA is inviting submissions for our self-funded Dark Skies Residencies, based in the Old Schoolhouse, Allenheads in rural Northumberland.

Allenheads is the highest village in England at the heart of the North Pennines. As well as the dramatic landscape and weather, artists can experience the spectacular night skies which peak during the winter months. Allenheads experiences some of the darkest, clearest night skies in the UK. These phenomenal night skies can be explored using our new observatory due for completion by Spring 2017, housing a 10" f/4.8 Newtonian telescope. Artists can also take advantage of the Dobsonian telescope already on site, along with other star gazing equipment and software.

As a creative practitioner, you can immerse yourself in our stimulating, expansive and striking environment, to explore possibilities and practices within a new context. Whether you need to research or produce, we can provide a supportive environment for creative practitioners from all disciplines.

Your visit can be totally self-directed, but ACA's curators are here to help you get the most out of your stay.

We welcome enquiries from single person and group bookings with all levels of experience. We have a long history of working with students and academics from foundation level right through to PhD. These residential periods can be organised independently or through your educational institution.
