Early Bird Special!

The Other Studio Residences for December 2017 and January, February and March 2018 at 30% discount off full rate.

This is a non-competitative application process. The first complete applications of a professional standard received before the end of October 2017 will be successful.

Residences are open to practitioners of all art forms, and applications may be for an individual artist or for small groups of artists collaborating on a project.

Residences are for as minimum of two weeks and a maximum of three months.

The property that the residence is on in Crohamhurst in South-east Queensland is a small farm - 16 acres. The farm is 5km from the little village of Peachester, 15km from the local commercial centre Beerwah, and by car is 20 min from the Maleny art hub and rainforests, 1/2 hour from Caloundra on the Pacific coast, and 1 hour from Brisbane (in good traffic!). And of course there is rail from Beerwah to Brisbane.

It is very quiet and peaceful, the residence building is in the middle of the farm so the nearest neighbours are the cows (!), and there is the opportunity to have contemplative walks along the Stanley River (the back boundary), or to sit on the porch and enjoy the views of the Glass House Mountains while taking a break from work or trying to resolve artistic problems.

The building is self contained, and can sleep several adults comfortably. There is a huge indoor workspace - about 10m x 4m and a large covered outdoor workspace - about 8m x 3m. The building is a wonderful facility for a range of artistic pursuits - visual art (including 3D in the outside workspace), music, or writing, and collaborative performance, dance, or music etc development. An etching and litho press is available, and there is a sound-proof room in the studio.

All utilities are included - power, gas, heating/airconditioning, internet etc. Artists are be responsible for their day-to-day food, although it is envisaged that social events introducing the resident artists to local artists will occur. Artists need to pay for their residence.

The residence provides the opportunity for intrastate, interstate and international artists to apply for residencies to work on a project. It is anticipated that the artists while working on their own projects will also engage with and collaborate with the local artistic community. Although not compulsory, for every four week period that artists are resident they will be asked to present a half-day workshop, or give an artist talk/performance/reading, or give a presentation to arts students in one of the two local high schools, or have engagement with university art students, or have developed a mentoring relationship with a local artist or group of artists.
