Residencia Tajamar
Fundacion Tajamar  and the  Royal Embassy of Denmark in Chile announces the kickstart of its curatorial research residency program with an open call for curators working and living in Denmark to explore the vibrant art scene in Chile. The selected curator will participate in this project from a one to three months residence beginning in May, 2018. The program will provide time, space and access to files for the curator to develop an investigation and a curatorial proposal about the chilean art scene (the residency duration is  depending on needs of the curator).

Once realized the investigation, the curator will select 6 artist for Galeria Tajamar annual program 2018-2019  and will write a curatorial text along  the residency.

During this period, Fundacion Tajamar facilitates a series of studio visits and meetings with artists and professionals involved in the Chilean contemporary arts sector in order to guide curators willing to discover or to deepen their knowledge on chilean artistic practices.

Fundacion Tajamar aims  to foster and develop new connections and opportunities with Chilean and internationally visual artists and curators meanwhile creating personal and institutional long term connections.

Fundación Tajamar is a non-profit organization established in December 2012, was created after our project of contemporary art exhibition in the public space, Galería Tajamar.

Our mission is to develop and manage projects related to contemporary art that generates cultural contribution, supporting the promotion of artists  intergenerationally with a relevant speech and unique vision. At the same time we work to bring art closer to the community, preserving and promoting projects of independent management and searching for the participation of new audiences. Galeria Tajamar
Galeria Tajamar is an exhibition space founded on April 16th, 2011. It´s located in the central square of the Torres de Tajamar in the district of Providencia, Santiago, a legacy of the modern architecture in Chile.

It`s main quality is its architecture, a completely glazed hexagonal construction. Because of this you can see the artworks clearly from its 360 ​​°, 24 hours a day without the need of entering.

The Gallery is conceived as a space for the public domain, accessible to all. The artworks presented here establish a dialogue with the viewer in a similar way than the  established by public works of art, but this time, protected by a gallery that allows the circulation of different artists.

With 7 years of experience Galeria Tajamar has shown over 70 exhibitions with national and international artists, emerging, of medium and long trajectory, positioning itself as a cultural reference in the local artistic scene.

We will provide:
+ Round-trip airfare to Santiago de Chile.
+ Free combined live and work studio apartment located in Las Torres de Tajamar (includes water, heat, light, Wi-Fi) in the Apartment Studio of Fundacion Tajamar which is located in Providencia, Santiago.
+ The support of the team of Fundación Tajamar, which will help the curator depending on research needs as well as introductions to artists, art institutions, curators, galleries in Santiago city and nationwide.
+ A public exhibition space, Galería Tajamar, which is available to expose the curatorial proposal.
+ Printing of a limited edition curatorial text, which will be distributed free of charge between relevant personalities of the visual arts in Chile and Denmark.
+ Coordination of public activities open to the community linked to our educational program.
+ Great location near to downtown, museums and transportation.


We are looking for curators who:
+ Are working and living in Denmark
+ Are showing consistent curatorial practice
+ Manifest a genuine interest in the Chilean art scene 
+ Are willing to engage with the local audience presenting the results of the investigation through a public event

+ Cover letter with three key questions: Why are you interested in visiting Chile? What do you hope to achieve while here? Specify your preferred time frame  (max 500 words per question or section).
+ CV (max three pages)
+ Supporting documentation: One or two maximum selected curatorial projects

Closing date for applications: November 10th, 2017. Selected curator will be notified by  November 21 2017.
