[...] IN RESIDENCY - ZK/U BERLIN OPEN CALL

Open Call for residency program

Description of residency program
In the context of its art and research residency programme, ZK/U offers a ‘living & work’ space for artists, scholars and practitioners that concern themselves with the concept and context of ‘the city’.

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
The programme is open to contemporary artistic positions that are conceptual, interventionist and contextual. Work at ZK/U is informed by theoretical and practice-based critiques within the fields of urban research, geography, anthropology, urbanism, architecture and the humanities. ZK/U focuses on the processes that come from, and feed into the particular contexts of the fellows’ practices, whether they be locally-defined situations or international discourses. Residents are encouraged to involve themselves with ZK/U’s programme and to propose their own formats. In the frame of this Open Call, ZK/U is particularly interested in projects that create spaces for encounter and exchange between citizens from diverse backgrounds; that question and reclaim urban infrastructure and public space for the commons; that make global complexities graspable in a local context; and that imagine forms of local belonging within post-migration societies.

KEYWORDS
NON-FORMAL & SELF-EDUCATION, URBAN PEDAGOGY, URBAN INFRASTRUCTURE, PUBLIC SERVICES, IMAGINATIVE ECONOMIES, GLOBALIZED LOCALISM/LOCALIZED GLOBALISM, SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT, MIGRATORY PROCESSES

Accommodation/ 'living and work' space
In the residency space there are furnished studio-apartments (half of which have private bathrooms) and communal facilities like a large kitchen, a terrace, a library-in-progress and a surrounding public park.

Fees and support
For individual fellows, depending on the studio-apartment and length of stay, the residence costs are between €550 and €850 a month. After being selected, ZK/U will support the invited residential fellow in their efforts to secure funding through external grants by providing the fellow with an official invitation and identifying relevant funding networks and grants.

Expectations towards the artist
ZK/U welcomes artists, scholars and practitioners that concern themselves with the phenomenon of 'the city'. The programme is open to a range of contemporary artistic positions that are conceptual, interventionist and contextual. Artists are expected to have a broad record of projects and exhibitions. Scholars and practitioners should have some years of professional experience. One can apply individually or as a group. Group applications consisting of artists working together with scholars or practitioners from other disciplines are especially welcome.

The application proposal should be coherent with the Open Call conceptual frame and investigation leads.
