Call for residency at the Haihatus Art Center

The Haihatus Art Center began its residency programme at the start of the new year 2012. The purpose of this residency is to provide a space for creation, encourage exchange between artists and different artistic disciplines.

Residencies will be awarded to artists from all disciplines, for one month or longer periods. There are no restrictions on the nationality of the applicants. The rent 550 euros/month includes, a room, a work or practice space, water and electricity.

There are 6 rooms (17 – 23m2) located on the upper floor of the Utopia House and each has its own kitchenette. Toilets and showers are located in the common space. The work/training spaces are located on the lower level of the same building each measuring from 10 - 60m2. There are also space for performance, exhibitions, hanging out, a sauna etc. Various kinds of space are also available in the Haihatus building, which is located on the same lot.

Travel costs and other personal expenses are paid by the artist themselves.

Haihatus is situated in Joutsa, which is a small Community in Central Finland by highway 4 (E75). The distance from Helsinki to Joutsa is 200 km and there are daily express coach services. The distance from Jyväskylä to Joutsa is 70 km and from Lahti to Joutsa 100 km.

Haihatus Art Center is situated nearby the Joutsa center, which is a picturesque rural village, like a tiny town with super-markets, shops, restaurants and cafés. In leisure time there are good possibilities for jogging, skiing, swimming and rowing by boat etc.

The application is free-form, but must include project proposal, desired time period for the residency and the desired length of residency.
