Open Call - Despina Residency Programme - LAST SLOTS for 2018! Deadline 15.01.2018.

Description of residency programme
Despina Residency Programme is designed for artists and curators wishing to immerse themselves in their work and/or research. We provide them with the space to explore practices, concepts, new ideas and materials; and to develop a project while receiving professional feedback and support. The selected artists/curators have the chance to live and work in Rio de Janeiro and to participate in a range of activities such as talks, meetings, studio visits and exhibition tours. Participants are also encouraged to propose talks and workshops, and to learn about the socio-cultural and political scenario in Brazil. The support, networks and creative environment offered by Despina Residency Programme encourages professional/artistic development and international contacts.

Duration of residency
1 to 3 months

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
Despina Residency Programme aims to bring artists and curators from all countries and all disciplines (writing, painting, sculpture, architecture, design, multimedia and video art, mixed media art, new technologies, installation, music, dance, performance, etc). We provide all the participants with studio space, basic tools, projectors, a deskjet printer and some leftover building materials. Curatorial support (one-on-one meetings with a leading curator), weekly follow-up meetings and studio visits are also part of the activivities set throughout the period of the residency.

Studio flats are self-contained and equipped with wi-fi, essential furniture, linen and towels, refrigerator and kitchenware.

The studios are located in a XIX century building, in the city centre of Rio de Janeiro. Some of them are occupied permanently by local artists as part of our goal to establish a dynamic and supportive working environment. A studio with approximately 25m² is reserved for each participant of Despina Residency Programme. The studios are open to the public during exhibition openings and events. Artists and curators have plenty of autonomy to organize their spaces individually, propose workshops, talks and exhibition projects. Although independent, all studios are open plan, allowing interaction and stimulating dialogue between artists and across cultures.
