AiR in the Moroccan Sahara September 2018

Get re-inspired and recharged in the silence and calm of the Moroccan Sahara.

Brief description of organisation
Cafe Tissardmine is run by co-owners Karen Hadfield (Australia) and Youssef Bouchedor (Tafilalet, Morocco). It is situated in a very remote village which provides a beautifully quiet environment.

At Cafe Tissardmine we conserve water, are totally solar powered for both hot water and power. We try to reduce rubbish as much as we can and ask artists to be mindful of what they bring into the region. If you bring in any toxic artist materials and packaging we ask that you leave with them as well!

As one of the few businesses in the area, we provide employment for many locals through our need for services such as laundry, bread making, building and cooking.

At present we do not directly support any charities but we do work with the local association that works for the benefit of the community. Our current project is building a new community centre for education and health clinics.

Brief description of residency program
Cafe Tissardmine is a situated in a remote village in the Moroccan Sahara. We recognise the need for artists to recharge, share ideas, be inspired and to find a place to breathe. We run 4 month-long residencies per year for a maximum of four artists with this idea in mind. The residency is not project based or requiring specific engagement or outcome but it is a place to find peace and new ideas. Artists from all disciplines are welcome to apply. As we are so remote we cannot offer internet access on a daily basis, but a trip into town is possible to catch up on emails.

A Residency at Cafe Tissardmine is also an opportunity to discover the richness of the Berber culture; their way of life, cooking and crafts.

The cost of the residency covers full board, accommodation and some transportation.
