Kammari Residency open call for researchers, writers and artists

Open call for researchers, writers and artists in the Troodos mountains of Cyprus.

Description of residency program
The Kammari residency for researchers, writers and artists is opening a new season of autumn/winter 2018 with an open call. In the summer season we had a dozen artists, researchers, filmmakers, writers and musicians working in the residency. Now we welcome artists and researchers to apply for the autumn season with a free form application by email to residency(at)kammari.org.

Duration of residency
The residency work period is from two weeks to three months. It is an artist run space.

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
All art disciplines are welcome. Our own work in the residency concentrates in combining academic research with disciplines such as performance, film and poetry. However we aim to promote and facilitate artistic work and research in all disciplines. For painting and other visual arts all basic equipment are present as well as fo handicraft works we have a wood workshop with basic hand tools. There are also shared computers for writing, video and visual work. The natural mountain settings are ideal for work in disciplines or projects that require concentration, such as writing and painting.

We provide assistance to the artist in terms of networking in the island to organise shows or performances. The residency hosts also assist in every practical question from transport and food to bying necessary equipment.

Studio/ workspace
The residency has a small studio for performance, dance and music work with basic equipment such as a sound system, mixer, amp, instruments, projector and recording/documentation possibilities. We have another studio for painting and writing with basic tools for visual arts.

Accommodation
Accommodation includes three private rooms in the residency house. Two larger double bedrooms with the rent of 400 Euros per month and a small single room for 250 Euros per month. All income goes to paying costs of the house. The residency working group and hosts work on a voluntary basis and live in the village close by to the residency house. The hosts help in any practical questions of the residents.

Fees and support
The residency is artist run and we have no external funding. Thus everyone invoved with the residency works voluntarily and we cannot provide the visiting artists and researchers with any grants. The only fees for the artist are the rent of the room and sharing basic mutual material costs such as gas for cooking, common food etc. The rent includes the structural costs like electricity and water.

Expectations towards the artist
The artists or researchers in the residency are not expected to provide any results. We happily facilitate works with the local community and presentations or exhibitions of the artists' works. We also collaborate with an art centre in Limassol who organises discussions, exhibitions and events with international guests (neme.org), which are opportunities to the visiting artists to engage with the local and international art scene.

Application information
The applications should include the CV/bio of the artist, the portfilo or previous works (can be a link to a website) and a free form presentation/description of the project that the artist is going to be working on during the residency program. All this information is provided to the email: residency (at) kammari.org

The selection process is done by the working group of the Kammari Residency, which includes active artists and researchers. The call is open (without a deadline) until the end of 2018 and we aim to respond to applications in a week.
