Micro Residencies in the South of France

Call for applications for 1-4 week self-directed, self-funded residencies in South West France.

Description of residency program
Studio Faire is a contemporary art space in South West France, providing residencies for artists, writers, musicians and all other types of creative practitioner.

Situated in the market town of Nérac, in the stunning Lot-et-Garonne region, on the northern edge of Gascony. Here you will find the ‘real’ unspoilt France. Medieval Villages are surrounded by lush green rolling hills that lead your eye to the horizon via sunflower fields, orchards and vines. The perfect place to slow down and focus.

Duration of residency
1-4 weeks

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
This residency is open to creative practitioners working in all disciplines.

Your hosts have many skills between them. Colin Usher is a Photographer and Digital Media expert and Julia Douglas a Mixed Media Artist (specialising in Textiles and Screen-print) and a Web Designer. They are also well connected in the area and willing to share their knowledge and contacts with you during your stay. There will most likely be other creative residents at Studio Faire during your stay with whom you can share information and ask for feedback.

For residents staying for 4 weeks, we are happy to help arrange an Open Studio or presentation to show the work developed during your residency.

A professional photoshoot of you, your work and your event is also included.

Accommodation
Residents live and work in the house, studios and gardens of Studio Faire, a Maison de maître built around 1840 and still retaining its period characteristics. Rooms and studios are spacious and mature gardens offer private, shaded space for work and play. This place is special!

Studio / workspace
The studio space in the old garage is generously proportioned with it's own sink and North facing glazed garage doors. It can be accessed from the bedrooms and kitchen. Two giant attached workshops, plus another external building in the garden, can also provide great space for larger sculptural projects or messy work and the large walled garden is enclosed, offering private, shaded space for reading or drawing under the mature trees.

Expectations towards the artist
As this is a self-funded residency, we have no expectations towards the artist(s) and hope that this supportive environment, without the pressure to produce, will aid creativity, experimentation and the development of new ideas.

Fees and Applications
These 1- 4 week self-directed residencies are self-funded residencies for 1 person or 2 people collaborating. Rates include a private double bedroom, and shared shower room with toilet, studio space, kitchen, dining room and gardens. A professional photoshoot of your work and yourselves are also included.

The residencies are for 1, 2, 3 or 4 weeks, beginning on a Thursday:
28th February – 7th March and/or
7th – 14th March and/or
