Two Weeks of Printmaking Bliss!

Description of residency program
Zea Mays Printmaking is offering a subsidized fellowship for a 2-week residency in our printmaking studio to one printmaker who demonstrates artistic excellence, a love of printmaking, and the intention of future achievement in the field of safer and non-toxic printmaking. Open to all printmakers who are working without solvents or committed to converting from traditional methods to sustainable practices.

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
Our Residency Program provides an opportunity for artists to work in a cutting-edge studio, research center, educational institution and artist community. We strive to create an environment that is both professional and personal with great respect for the creative process of each artist.  

Enjoy the luxury of a fully equipped private print studio within our print shop including a 42″ x 70″ Takach etching press, large work tables, and inking tables, plenty of wall space for work in progress, sink, ferric etching tank. 24 hour access/ 7 days a week. Spread out and dig in!

Accommodation and studio/ workspace
Our residency offers the artist a private studio within the larger Zea Mays Printmaking facility. The residency studio has a beautiful 40" x 72" Takach etching press, large worktables and 24/7 access. Residency artists are housed in our on-site apartment which includes a full kitchen, bath, sitting room and private bedroom. Access to the studios' etching, screen printing, darkroom, photopolymer and letterpress facilities is available during open studio hours.

Fees and support
The fellowship, valued at US$1500, covers the cost of a private studio with 24hour access, on-site housing and use of all studio equipment and staff support duiring open studio hours.   The artist is responsible for transportation, meals, materials and private instruction if requested.

Expectations towards the artist
The only expectation of the selected printmaker is to have a good time!  Our residencies are designed to to fit an artist's needs and desires.  It can be a time of learning and experimenting or editioning or the execution of a pre-conceived project.

Artist talk and open studio time to share processes and ideas with our printmaking community are optional.
