Athena Standards Residency Accepting Applications for Spring & Summer Sessions

Athena Standards Residency is accepting applications now for it´s April - July Residency sessions!

The Athena Standards Residency is a month-long studio artist residency program in vibrant, urban Athens, Greece.

We are able to accommodate 12 artists per residency session. The residency session lasts a minimum of one month. We open all sessions within the year to applications, and reviews of applicants are conducted on a monthly basis. We encourage artists to apply for our Spring and Summer 2019 sessions. We will be closed the month of August.

Emerging and established studio artists, working in painting, mixed media, printmaking, performance, installation, dance, digital art, photography, video and installation are encouraged to apply. We do not have a kiln, large format digital printer, or flat bed press, but we are able to arrange for artists working in mediums that require those tools to use neighboring facilities.

Artists are provided shared housing with other residency artists in apartments around Athens, in proximity to the studio premises. The Athena Standards' studios are in a repurposed commercial building, with abundant natural light. The building includes such amenities as a communal woodshop, storage for works in progress, a kitchenette and lounge, keypad access and a security guard in the evenings, as well as a studio manager to provide assistance five days per week.

The Residency Program is €1500/ month. We encourage residents to consider staying for two months or longer, in order to develop a deeper knowledge of the city. For 2019, we are offering 10% off the second month and 20% off the third consecutive month.

During the residency, Elizabeth Plessa and the ASR staff will be sharing opportunities with artists to visit gallery openings, lectures, screenings, and other cultural events around Athens. Artists may collaborate on performances, installations or screenings, working under the guidance of the Studio Manager and Program Director. Additionally, there will be workshops offered, including a Handbuilding Ceramics Course under the professorship of Giorgos Tserionis and a guided tour of six major archaeology sites in Athens by Victor Rusu.
