The Wilds of Venice: Creative Entrepreneurship & Contemporary Art with the Jealous Curator

Study contemporary art behind the scenes of the Venice Biennalé with the ECA and Jealous Curator.

Description of residency program

In an exciting partnership with the European Cultural Academy, The Wild Residency invites artists and creatives from all fields and backgrounds for a unique education behind the scenes of the world’s oldest and most prestigious art fair. 

This intensive two week course in collaboration with Danielle Krysa, aka The Jealous Curator, is set within the context of the 58th Biennalé Arté, in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Study strategies and approaches unique to your creative endeavors in contemporary art, and join a supportive network of international peers and leading curators in making our wild dreams a reality this summer in Venice.

2 weeks: July 15-27 2019

Disciplines, work equipment and assistance
The course is designed for creative curious minds. Students, curators, museum workers, artists and art lovers are welcome. On average there are around 11 nationalities per group. The international network of ECA instructors and alumni will continue to support you and your projects after the course.

Study contemporary art, creative entrepreneurship, curatorial studies, and the Venice Biennalé at the European Cultural Academy in collaboration with The Jealous Curator.  One of the most beautiful cities in the heart of the art world is your classroom.  

The European Cultural Academy provides comprehensive support and resources to their students, and The Wild Residency offers the support of our experience as ECA alumni.

Students currently enrolled in college or university are invited to apply to the ECA's Travel Scholarship in partnership with The Wild Residency

Participants are responsible for their own accommodations in Venice, and the European Cultural Academy provides a comprehensive list of affordable recommended accommodations, restaurants and other student resources on their website.  The Academy can also assist you with arranging your lodgings.

Studio/ workspace
Classes with expert lecturers and collaborative practical workshops are held in the historic palazzos of the European Cultural Academy, amongst collateral Biennale event exhibitions of the European Cultural Centre, in the Venice Biennale itself, and through all of Venice.

Fees and support
In generous collaboration, the European Cultural Academy is reserving 8 admissions to this ambitious course for the Wild Residency community (if you’re reading this, it could be you!), and awarding one successful applicant who is a student (enrolled at a college or university) with up to €1000 euros in travel scholarship support to be used towards airfare and / or train tickets.  

If you are enrolled as a student in a college or university, apply to the European Cultural Academy for travel scholarship support and provide a letter from your educational institution stating why this course will be benefticial to your studies.

The Wild Residency can also provide you with Letter of Invitation to support your funding endeavours.

Expectations towards the artist
Tuition fees to the European Cultural Academy: Deposit of €350 upon enrollment;  Balance of €1300 a week before the course.

Travel, accommodations and meals in Venice, Italy (see Travel Scholarship Opportunity).

Participation in scheduled course activities.

Application information

It is free and easy to apply.  Simply answer a few breif questions about your goals and interests and mention The Wild Residency in your application form.

A €350 deposit is all that's required to hold you place in the program.  The balance of €1300 is due the week before the course.
